Poggio Ridente (delightful or smiling hill). The name proves itself when one is on the hill of Cocconato where the vines of the “San Sebastiano” and “Vallìa” vineyards are lined up and thanks its special pedoclimatic condition (a microclimate within the soil). These factors have resulted in this location being known as the “Riviera of Monferrato”. This is the location of the organic Poggio Ridente winery where the main production is Barbera and Albarossa. The manager is Cecilia who is enchanted by “the poetry of the land”, and has been a devotee of organic production for some years. The quality of a product becomes, therefore, not an expression of rules, but of the quality of the vines and the environment in which they breathe. “There are open discussions between our agronomist, Luigi, and myself”. The land totals 20 hectares at an altitude above 450 metres, of which 10 hectares are planted to vines which surrounded by forest and hedges. The property is divided into two principle vineyards, on opposite sides of Cocconato to which have been added 3 hectares of new vines of Pinot Noir, Viognier and Riesling.
